The Belgian Malinois is a very intelligent, lively breed excelling in an active family environment, but also is a wonderful working dog whether in obedience, herding, agility or tracking.. The Belgian Malinois is a no-nonsense dog who must be taken seriously by their owner. It is recommended an owner be an experience dog person. They are well balanced medium size dogs, elegant in appearance. They are the picture of power and grace. Belgian Tervurens are intelligent, courageous, alert and devoted to their master. In the standard for the Belgian Malinois the word "square" is frequently used to describe the breed, as the dog's body is about as long as it is tall. The elegant Malinois is a muscular dog but not heavy, solid but very agile, with a proud carriage. Their chest is neither broad nor narrow, but is deep, reaching to the elbow. They have short-haired coat which is fawn to red to mahogany with black tips, mask, and ears and a thick undercoat. Some white is allowed on the chest and feet. The hair around the neck is a bit longer and forms a collar. Their small, dark, almond-shaped eyes have an alert and questioning expression.
